Prayer is a key component of our Catholic faith. Want to lead a solid faith life? Pray. Life has you down and you have nowhere to turn. Pray. Thankful for something that has happened in your life? You got it – pray. Some find spontaneous prayer to be best suited for them and others prefer having a handy prayer book as a reference. Pauline Books and Media has recently released two very handy prayer books I’d like to share with you. Mary, Mother of God Prayer Book and Eucharistic Adoration Prayer Book are both wonderful resources you may want to consider.
Mary Mother of God Prayer Book
This pocket sized gem has a leatherette cover with gold-edged pages and a ribbon make for a long-lasting aid in prayer. The book was written and compiled by Sr. Marianne Lorraine Trouvé, FSP, a Marian scholar who has written a number of different prayer books from the rosary to daily devotionals. This book comes in at 176 pages and is packed with Marian prayers of the saints, Marian novenas, Rosary meditations, Marian devotions, and Latin prayers and hymns.
“From the earliest days of the Church, Christians have turned to Mary in prayer. The Acts of the Apostles tells us that after Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples ‘were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women including Mary the mother of Jesus’. We can imagine her maternal presence among them, how they must have asked her to tell them stories about Jesus and asked her advice and help. We can do the same.”
This book provides readers with a handy, comprehensive collection of prayers to Mary to aid in their faith journey.
Eucharistic Adoration Prayer Book
Eucharistic Adoration draws us into a deeper relationship with Christ. Next to the Mass itself, taking time to sit in silence with our Lord is one of the greatest ways to develop a personal relationship with Christ. This book was written by Sr. Marie-Paul Curley, FSP, and compiled by Sr. Mary Mark Wickenhiser, FSP.
The book opens with a chapter on Pauline spirituality that explains how to live our lives more fully in the Eucharist. This is followed with a chapter that walks readers through how to make a Pauline Hour of Adoration which is broken into three parts:
- Adoring Jesus’ Truth
- Following Jesus’ Way
- In Union with Jesus’ Life
Included in the book are seven different hours of adoration to follow. Additionally the book contains a beautiful collection of prayers, litanies, personal prayers for before and after Mass, and Eucharistic prayers. Like the Mary Mother of God Prayer Book this book is also bond in leatherette with gold-edged pages and a ribbon.
“God longs to be close to you. When we yearn for ‘Something More,’ or struggle with an inner emptiness, we are responding to God’s desire for us. God sent us his Son to draw us into a closer relationship. And Jesus’ gift of his very self in the Eucharist is an ongoing, amazing manifestation of God’s eagerness to be close to each of us.”
If you are looking to improve your prayer life you can’t go wrong with these two books which are part of the growing Catholic Treasury Series from Pauline Books and Media. Establishing a consistent prayer life can be challenging. Thankfully resources like these two books are readily available to lead us in the right direction.
